Hallux valgus is the deviation of the big toe towards the midline of the foot and is commonly called a "bunion".
It is a very frequent affectation in western society. It has recently been described that among the population aged 18-65 it affects almost 1 in 4 people, and among the population over 65 years it presents an incidence of 36%, more than 1 in 3.
