Have you ever wondered how sales started?
Well, the story goes back to the 1920s in the United States, during the Great Recession. A group of retail stores got together and created "Affiliated Department Stores" because their sales were declining. And here came the master move of Fred Lazarus Jr., the first president of this association, with his "buy now, pay later"! That marked the beginning of the current consumption pattern.
Then, in the 1930s, Lazarus revolutionized the sale of unsold products in season and still in inventory. He decided to create specific dates at the end of each season to sell all that surplus stock at lower prices. It was much better to take advantage of those products on sale than to leave them gathering dust in a warehouse.
Since then, the idea of sales has spread around the world and today, although they are no longer limited to specific dates, there are always opportunities to save, such as Black Friday, days without VAT, and other events. But the summer and winter sales are still the favorites of all buyers. It is a social phenomenon that gathers hundreds of people in front of department stores in search of the best prices!
The most common dates on which winter and summer sales must take place, respectively, are the following:
- From January 7 to March 6, both inclusive.
- From July 1 to August 31, both inclusive.
Remember that the information on the specific dates of the sales seasons may change, so we recommend you consult the current legislation of your autonomous community to be up-to-date with the best savings opportunities. Happy shopping!
